How the Bali budget is calculated
The monthly total is accommodation plus dining plus transport plus the add-ons you tick. Accommodation is a base rent for your lifestyle tier multiplied by an area factor. Everything is shown in US dollars and converted to rupiah with a live exchange rate.
Monthly total = (tier base rent × area multiplier) + dining + transport + add-ons
Lifestyle tiers and base rent
| Tier | Base rent per month | Typical monthly total |
|---|---|---|

| Digital Nomad | $800 | ~$1,200 – $1,800 |
| Luxury / Family | $1,800 | ~$2,500 – $4,500 |

Where the estimates come from
- Community reports: discussions and cost reports from Reddit, Nomad List and Facebook groups for people living in Bali.
- Listings and price lists: public property and rental listings, and published price lists for scooter rental, coworking and gyms.
- Official sources: the E33G visa requirements and fees come from the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration (evisa.imigrasi.go.id).
These are reviewed ranges, not a statistical survey, and the calculator does not claim a fixed sample size. Each figure is a planning estimate chosen to sit inside a realistic range.
Exchange rate
The rupiah amount uses a live USD to IDR rate loaded when you open the page. If the live rate cannot be loaded, the site falls back to an estimated rate of 1 USD = Rp 17,900 and labels it as an estimate.
What the calculator leaves out
- Flights, travel insurance, taxes and one-off visa costs.
- Shopping, nightlife, medical bills and trips to other islands.
- Seasonal peaks, long-term rental discounts and what you can negotiate.
